Halifax

Halifax are a post-hardore/pop punk band from Thousand Oaks, California. Halifax are currently comprised of Chris Brandt (vocals, guitar), Adam Charles (guitar), Eric Ivener (bass) and Tommy Guindon (drums). Their most recent album release is The Inevitability of a Strange World. It was released on May 23, 2006 so it’s been awhile since they have released any albums. They did release an EP in 2010 without lead singer Mike Hanau. However, I’m going to check out the video of one of the songs from this album. “Our Revolution” is the first single release from Halifax‘s third album, The Inevitability of a Strange World.

The video opens with a blonde girl covered in tattoos flicking a Zippo lighter open and lighting it. And that’s just the beginning of when things start heating up and a sign of things to come. The music kicks off fast and furious and the band are playing with fans all around them. The fans start making out and even licking and biting each other, including a sexy shower scene right before the band breaks out with the chorus:

Hell yeah

Get up, get up, get up, do you believe in

Hollywood restart our revolution

Hell yeah

Get up, get up, get up, and sing it

If rock n’ roll is dead, the dead will come undone

One thing I love about Halifax is the energy and outpouring of energy they put out to their fans. This is crucial, keeps the excitement building and keeps people interested. Typical boring band just standing around strumming? Not Halifax. They jump, run, pump their fists in the air…there is always some level of activity going on. As far as this video goes, that activity includes girls in a hot tub as well as makingHanau their boy toy. It’s rare that he doesn’t have a hot girl hanging all over him in this video. There’s a decent guitar solo towards the end of the video which is followed by more dancing and making out along with the high-powered, energetic vocals ofHanau. The girls in the bubble bath seem to be having fun. The video ends with Hanau standing, head tilted back and arms raised to the sky, then it flashes through some Polaroid shots of the night and ends with lipstick on the mirror that reads, “Had fun, kisses” and there are a couple of lipstick kisses on the mirror as well. Just a reminder of what a crazy night it was.

This video showcases the high energy of Halifax and portrays them as young sex symbols of the modern punk era. This video is intended to be steamy, sexy and fun and it is successful on all these fronts. This is one of the best songs Halifaxhave ever put out and, in my opinion, the best video they have ever released. It’s a little short, just over three minutes long, but what it lacks in quantity it more than makes up for in quality. “Our Revolution” is truly a punk masterpiece.
